Root Canal (Endodontics)
Root canal treatment ( endodontics) is required when the blood or nerve supply to a tooth is damaged due to decay, fracture or injury.
The affected tooth can become infected causing an abscess or gumboil. The symptoms of an abscess range from a dull ache, to severe pain, and even facial swelling. In some cases a course of antibiotics may even be required.
Root Canal is the procedure to remove all infection from the tooth. This procedure is therefore used to save impaired teeth that otherwise would have required extraction.
A tooth can become more brittle following root canal treatment so sometimes our Dentists will recommend a crown to protect it long term.
