Periodontics

“Periodontics” or “Periodontal Disease” refers to the disease and condition that affect your gums. It is an inflammation of your gums, where bacteria contained within the plaque on the surface of your tooth can then cause your gums to become inflamed. It can be a severe cause of tooth loss in adults if left untreated, but many treatments are available today for you!

A pocket can eventually form between the root of your tooth and the gum; this is where bacteria can escalate, meaning a calculus will develop. This issue is also known as being called the ‘Silent Disease’ due to a lot of people being unaware they have it until the advanced stages when there is too much damage already formed. Did you know gum disease is quite common, and 10% of the population appear to suffer from more severe forms of gum disease?! Ensuring that you have regular dentist appointments with us here at Horsham Smiles means that we can keep a close eye on your teeth and gum health. If we notice any changes, they can be treated quickly and effectively before advancing further.

It is vital that you know the signs and symptoms to look for regarding Periodontics. This ensures that you can keep a close eye and know what to look out for when you are brushing your teeth. These would include:

  • Swelling of the gums or reddening
  • Gums that bleed
  • Teeth that have become loose
  • A bad taste in the mouth
  • Bad breath

Horsham Smiles is here to help you by treating Periodontitis. We ensure the treatment will be focused on plaque control because it’s the leading cause of gum disease.

With our dental nurses, you can get your teeth looking their best and feeling clean with an initial consultation covering the proper brushing technique twice daily. They will also remove tartar build-up professionally to have your teeth looking and feeling healthier and cleaner.

It will take several weeks of healing, and after this, we will assess the response of your gums to the treatment to see how well it has worked. It is essential that you come to this reassessment appointment as it is vital to determine how successful our therapy has been and whether you will need further treatment.

Gum pockets result from poor oral hygiene and can be treated with surgery. They frequently occur around the molars (back) tooth.

Our specialists will do everything possible to avoid the need for surgery. The outcome of this depends on how successful our initial phase was and whether it was successful.

Gum surgery can be used to revitalise the lost gum and bone around your teeth. The healing process is quite rapid, with most patients being healed within one week.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a surgical method of replacing teeth or a tooth that needs saving. They do not rely on the neighbouring tooth as it is a surgical procedure. They can include bridges, dentures and crowns.

Dental implants involve inserting artificial tooth roots into the gum in the space of the missing teeth. These implants will bond with your jawline, allowing the dentist or oral surgeon to place replacement teeth like crowns, bridges or dentures to the root to form the new tooth. Here at Horsham Smiles, we make dental implants to look, feel, and function like your natural teeth, and the procedure will be as pain-free as possible.

Several advantages include:

  • They make your teeth look more pleasing.
  • Dental implants look and feel just like natural teeth and provide the same functionality.
  • They will help to improve your confidence, giving you a new natural-looking smile.
  • They will take the pain or sensitivity you have been experiencing away.
  • They can also help to support your bone structure and sustain your facial tissues.
  • The success rate of dental implants is extremely high. When inserting the implants, your existing teeth do not have to be cut with a drill, so the quality of the teeth is still there.

In order to get dental implants, the patient must have good oral health and enough bone available to support the implant. Here at Horsham Smiles, we have the highest technology and use the best modern-day techniques, assuring that the procedure will be quick and painless and will not require a general anaesthetic.

After receiving the treatment, it is essential that you have good oral health, brushing your teeth regularly to ensure that the implants will last and keep their functionality. This will also help to minimise any further problems occurring with your teeth. The implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and create an attractive smile.

Prosthetics

If you are missing any teeth, we can also recommend our Prosthetics treatment to replace them. It will help get rid of your pain and give you your smile back. It replaces any missing teeth with removable or fixed dentures.

Here at Horsham Smiles, we use the most up-to-date technology and high-end care, ensuring our patients get the best treatment. Over the years, dentures have improved stability, longevity, and comfort because of these advances, and here at Smiles we will take the time to go through and ensure that your denture is perfect for you. We understand that every patient is different, and we will take our time and measure and fit your dentures to ensure that they fit perfectly to feel as natural as possible. There will be a few appointments while making your denture to ensure the fit is right for you to make them look as natural as possible, and ensure they do not cause any problems to your gums or while you are eating. You will be wearing them for most of the day, so they must be tested and fitted correctly to make them comfortable for you. We will also arrange a follow-up appointment to check they are lasting and you are happy with them.
